Add a note to the chart

    Last updated [DATE]

Add a short note to any day on the chart, for example "Moved the comparison pages to new URLs", so you and your team remember what happened when a number moved.

Who can do this: owners and editors add, edit and delete notes. Viewers can read them.

    Steps

    1. On the project dashboard, find the day in the chart. Then do one of these:
      • Click the day in the Notes strip under the chart ("Click a day here to add a note").
      • Right-click the day in the chart.
      • With the keyboard, focus the chart, use the left and right arrow keys to reach the day, press Enter to keep it, then choose Add note in the day's readout.
    2. In the Notes for dialog for that day, type your note under New note, in plain text, up to 280 characters. The counter shows how many characters you have used.
    3. Select Add note.

To change a note, open the same day, select Edit next to it and select Save. To remove one, select Delete and confirm with Delete when asked "Delete this note?". The note is then removed for everyone on the project.

    What you should see

    • The day shows a note marker in the Notes strip.
    • Everyone on the project can read notes. Notes also appear in the report you export. See Export a report with your logo.
    • Notes don't appear on share links.
    • A project holds up to 1,000 notes.

    If it doesn't work

    • You don't see Add note: viewers can read notes but can't add them. Ask an owner or editor.
    • "Write 1 to 280 characters.": a note can't be empty and can't be longer than 280 characters. Anything you type is shown as plain text, never as formatting.
    • "The note couldn't be saved. Please try again.": check your connection and try once more.
    • "This project has the most notes it can hold (1,000). Delete one to add another.": delete an old note first.
    • "This note was already deleted.": someone else removed it. Reload the page.
